Our Deck Cleaning And Staining Process

1. Wood and finish assessment: We identify the wood species, the existing finish (oil, water-based, solid stain, or none), and the failure mode (graying, peeling, mildew, or all three). This determines whether we clean only, clean and brighten, or strip and refinish.
2. Clean and brighten: We apply a wood-safe cleaner that lifts dirt, mildew, and gray weathered fibers, then a wood brightener that neutralizes the cleaner and restores the natural color before any new finish goes on.
3. Dry time: The wood must dry to manufacturer specification — usually 24 to 48 hours in Georgia humidity — before any stain or sealer is applied. Staining wet wood is the single most common cause of finish failure.
4. Stain or seal application: We apply your chosen stain or sealer with brushes and pads for proper penetration, working with the grain and back-brushing every coat. This is what makes the finish last instead of peeling in a year.
